How we look after your information.
Brightwell Clinic is the data controller for the information we hold about you. This notice explains what we collect, why we need it, and what you can ask us to do with it.
What we collect
When you become a patient we record your name, contact details, date of birth, GP details where relevant, and the clinical information needed to assess and treat you. This includes your medical history, the findings of your assessment, the treatment you receive and any images or gait recordings made as part of your care.
If you contact us through the website enquiry form we receive only the details you choose to send. Please do not include detailed medical information in an enquiry form.
Why we hold it
We use your information to provide your care, to keep accurate clinical records as our professional regulators require, to contact you about your appointments, and to take payment. Our lawful bases are the provision of health care, our legal obligations, and our legitimate interest in running the clinic.
We do not use your information for marketing, and we do not sell it. We will not share your information with anyone else without your consent, unless we are required to do so by law or there is a serious risk to someone’s safety.
Who we share it with
With your agreement we may write to your GP, consultant or another clinician involved in your care. We use trusted suppliers for appointment booking, clinical record keeping and card payments; they act on our instructions and may only use your information to provide that service.
How long we keep it
Clinical records are kept for the period required of registered health professionals, and for longer where a claim or complaint remains open. Enquiries that do not lead to an appointment are deleted once they have been answered.
Your rights
You can ask to see the information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to restrict how we use it, or object to a particular use. Some rights are limited where we must keep clinical records. To make a request, write to us at the Reading clinic or email info@brightwellclinic.co.uk. We will respond within one month.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information you may complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
