Nail surgery
Nail surgery is used for several painful nail conditions — most commonly nails that grow into the skin, or nails with a very curved shape, which we call involuted nails.
Common reasons people come to us
- The side of the toe is sore to touch or in shoes
- The same toe has flared up more than once
- Conservative nail care has helped only for a short time
How we assess the problem

- 02We check your general health and circulation before recommending a procedure.
- 03We explain the procedure, the fee and the aftercare so you can decide without pressure.
What to expect
The main procedure appointment lasts 90 minutes and treats up to two toes. The fee payable on booking covers sterilisation, six weeks' supply of dressings, one re-dressing appointment and two follow-up appointments.
Aftercare
You will be given dressings to use at home and clear written instructions. We see you again for a re-dressing and two follow-up appointments, which are included in the fee.
Treatment options
- Partial nail avulsion (PNA)
- Removal of the troublesome nail edge under local anaesthetic.
- Total nail avulsion (TNA)
- Removal of the whole nail where that is the appropriate option.
